An Ordinance to amend the Pension Ordinance, 1862.
Be it enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the
advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as
follows:-
This Ordinance may be cited as the Pension amendment
Ordinance, 1917, and shall be read and construed as one with
the Pension Ordinance, 1882, hereinafter called the principal
Ordinance, and this Ordinance and the said Ordinance may be
oited together as the Pension Ordinances 1862 and 1917.
Section 3 of the principal Ordinance is repealed and
the following section is substituted therefor: -

3.
Subject to the approval of the Secretary of State
as regards officera appointed under instructions from or
through the Secretary of State, the Governor in Council may:
(a) require any judge or other public officer to retire
from the service at any time after he attains the
age of fifty five years; or
(b) require any judge or other public officer to retire
from the service at any time if, in the opinion of
the Governor in Council, such judge or other public
officer is unable from any cause to discharze
efficiently the duties of his office.
Objects and Reasons
The object of this bill is to give the Governot
in Council power to require any judge or other publio cfficer
to retire after he attains the age of 55 years, or to require
any Judge or other public officer to retire at any time on the
ground of inability to discharre efficiently the duties of his
office.
